About
Hello there, and welcome to my Blog on anything and everything!
I’m a freelance writer based in beautiful West Cork in the south of the Republic of Ireland. I also run a the popular Ireland’s Wildlife site — a website for anyone with an interest in or affinity for the nature and wildlife of Ireland.
This site is predominantly to give me an informal platform to rant about anything and everything, although it will loosely focus on my endeavours as a freelance writer, my interest in photography, wildlife and the ongoing trials, triumphs and tribulations of running your own small business(es).
I hope you enjoy visiting, and look forward to reading your comments and feedback soon.
Cheers,
Calvin!

Good stuff here Calvin, really enjoy checking in from time to time. I found the blog only a few weeks back and empathise with you when you say west cork is beautiful I know what you mean – i’m next door in the Kingdom, loving every minute.
all the best
Vinny Hyland
Thanks Vinny,
Glad to hear you enjoy the blog. Apologies for not responding sooner — been a bit hectic around here lately (so what’s new?).
Interesting site you have — I’m really into wildlife myself, and studied Marine Biology at Liverpool. Used to write for Wild Ireland before its untimely demise, and I write a weekly wildlife profile for the back page of Ireland’s Own.
I recently acquired http://www.irelandswildlife.com and http://www.irelandsnature.com — nothing on them yet, but time permitting there will be soon.
Cheers,
Calvin!
Hello Calvin,
It’s just a shot in the dark but I wondered if your Dad’s name is Calvin and you have an Aunt Margaret? I have a friend who is looking for her cousins in Wales, and she hasn’t been in touch since she moved to Canada.
Thanks
Ruth
Hi Ruth,
Wrong Calvin, I’m afraid.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help — and best of luck in your search.
Cheers,
Calvin!

Hi John,
Try contacting Colin Barnes and/or Nick Slocum who both operate whale and dolphin trips off West Cork. You’ll find all the details on their websites. You can also check the whale and dolphin sightings database on the IWDG website for details of what’s being seen where around the Irish coastline.
Have a wonderful trip to Ireland.
Hi Clavin, I’ve just found your blog and will take a little time to explore. As someone who is also struggling to make a crust from words I feel for some of your concerns and rants. I’m not far away either, near Coachford, Cork. I shall stop by and share your rants.
All the best, David.

Oh dear me, what a gaff! Got your name wrong, sorry.
David red faced.
I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. Typos are an occupational hazard I’m all too familiar with .
Best of luck with the writing, and likewise… I’ll pop over to your blog for a read.
I enjoyed reading your article which I found looking for Gossips website. I too live in Rosscarbery and write about West Cork. Small world.
Hi Calvin, just thought I’d pop by and say hello! Haven’t
been in touch for a while and I can see you’ve hit the big 4′oh’
